The Eastwood based introductory café barista (underpinned by baking technology practicals) course provided nine learners professional training, preparing them for work as a café staff members, barista’s or even apprentice bakers or further study in this exciting industry.

There is currently a shortage of qualified bakers and barista’s so the learners realised this course as a great way to get into the high demand hospitality sector.

Our Eastwood training kitchen provided participants with a valuable training environment where we simulated retail learning experiences, making a range of cakes, pastries and yeast goods.  The program also focused on providing a solid foundation in barista and latte art training.

A graduate of the program Bianca Elliott said that “we learnt how to apply the various processes that are used in baking, follow recipes, make awesome coffee and operate commercial bakery equipment safely and hygienically”.

Deborah Bishop commented on the training staff; “Our trainers Tony and Scott was exceptionally knowledgeable, with broad experience both at baking and business management. Their teaching style was relaxed and informative. They were engaging and engaged well the group and made sure that we were job ready by the end of the four week program”.

She also said, “I had a wonderful time in the Café Barista program and I told countless people that it’s one of the best things I ever did, not simply in terms of and opportunity for entering the café/baking sectors, but as something I did for just for me. It brought me a lot of happiness to be doing something I loved, getting better at it, and now applying for really cool jobs with confidence”.

All nine graduates of the program agree that the IIFP program was a great way for job seekers with little or no experience to get their foot in the door, and a much better understanding of how to apply techniques in a café/bakery’s setting.
