Independent Institute run a Skills for All funded Certificate II in Meat Processing – Food Services MTM20411 workshop. This workshop will help you to gain the skills and knowledge required to kick-start your career in the Meat/Food industry.

  • Nationally recognised qualification
  • Full time program, Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm
  • Workshop component is 4 weeks, with course duration being 10 weeks to allow for any follow up training & assessment
  • Hands-on workshop, practical activities every day of the week!
  • Highly skilled trainer & assessors with years of industry based experience
  • Local high quality meat suppliers used for course materials- Barossa Fine Foods, Austral Meats & Gawler River Cattle
  • One week of recommended work placement following the workshop
  • Full size commercial kitchen at Albert Park
  • Easily accessible by public transport

Students have the opportunity to learn a range of skills in Meat processing as well as some valuable cookery skills. Over the duration of the workshop, chicken, pork, lamb and beef are covered in detail. The start of each week is spent with one of our butchers and the end of the week is spent with a chef focusing on how to create restaurant quality dishes with each variety of meat. Our trainers are highly regarded in the industry and have regular contact with their apprentices in the workplaces, so they know what standard is expected in the industry. Our trainers can give valuable advice to students wishing to pursue a career in the industry.

The following units are are covered in detail:

  • Produce value added products
  • Use basic method of meat cookery
  • Provide advice on cooking of meat products
  • Prepare mince meat products
  • Prepare and slice meat cuts ..and many more!

Job opportunities include butchery apprenticeships, meat retail positions, meat processing positions, kitchen hand positions, chef assistant roles, catering roles, restaurant & café roles and many more! This course gives students an extensive overview of the meat & food industries and equips them with skills to make them job-ready!
